Reflection on Clubland 14 album cover

Clubland 14 (2008)

Mise en Scene
Lighting: The lighting is very high key and flattering on the model face. This highlights her features which help to attract its target consumer and opposite gender in buying the album.
Positioning: The model is located in the centre which helps draw attention to the cover. This album cover is very busy however, the model stands out in a striking dance pose. Another convention similar to dance albums.
Colour: The colours are very vibrant with the neon purple and blues with a bright luminous effect which helps set the mood by portraying a rave scene for its stock setting.
Mode of Address: As a product, this gives a direct mode of address and makes the audience gain a connection towards the model by applying emotion towards her facial gesture. Its audience will be attracted to the cover and will more likely to buy it if they feel connected.
Image:The image on the front cover is very dramatic. The colours have a huge part with the image as it helps create meaning to the picture. The bright purple and blue neon effect adds a club scene to the image as well as portraying the girls previous dance moves. It looks like the image as been moving very quickly which creates a fast, exciting vibe towards this image.
Gesture and Body Language: The models gesture isn’t as seductive as the other models for the music genre ‘HARDCORE/ DANCE’. However she as very pretty features which helps attract its target audience and perused them to buy this album. Her body language looks free and uplifting with the slanting off the head which connotes she is have a fun and enjoying time. The positioning of the model is a slow dance motion pose, which helps presents the genre of music about this album which is ‘DANCE’.
Framing: framing seems to very tight with the medium long shot. The model is dominating the frame which challenges gender by having her seem controlling in a tight frame
Representation: This album represents gender. This image reinforces stereotypes of woman. Women are usually portrayed in the media and have to stay at home and look after the children. Having the model being seductive and rebellious with the hair lose and body free connotes a modern representation on woman. This image represents strong powerful woman, which helps engage is audience as well as attracting individuals to reflect into her behaviour. The model is very attractive with her long black hair and pretty features, which help sell this and attract its target audience. The model represents the typical female gender, by showing her flesh and being attractive in a sexual way. This is trying to help promote the CD by attracting its consumer.
Setting: The setting isn’t shown, however by the way the model is positioned, it could be portraying a club scene by her body language and costume.
Costume: The costume is a lot more modern compared to the other clubland albums I have analyzed. The costume seems to be a simple club outfit, however I think this is due to the fact clubland is a lot more commercial, so it needs to attract and target more of a mass variety of audience compared to the ‘clubland-x-treme’ which more targeted at hardcore fans.
Title/ font: The logo ‘CLUBLAND’ is placed in the centre on top of the image. The title is very big which draws attention because it is a very well known logo, which helps sell this product. The number 14 font looks very electric which could help present this genre of music about this album.
